Why is my mouse acting erratically?
Users who have an optical mechanical mouse (most common mouse for desktop computers) are likely experiencing erratic behaviour because the mouse is not clean or is dirty. If you've cleaned the mouse and continue to encounter issues and this mouse has worked in the past fine unfortunately your mouse is likely defective. One additional test that can be done to help determine if this is the case or not is to connect the mouse to another computer. Otherwise we suggest replacing the mouse.
The wheel on my mouse isn't working properly, what do I do?
If you're running any version of Microsoft Windows and are encountering issues with the mouse wheel, first attempt to adjust the mouse settings through the Mouse Properties window. This window can be accessed by opening the Control Panel and double-clicking the Mouse icon.
How can I clean my keyboard?
The keys on a keyboard are only clipped on, with a knife or other thin object, carefully pop the keys off, this will allow you to clean under the keys as well as cleaning the keys themselves (make sure you remember where they went!).
What is the procedure to join with your company?
After you've read our employment FAQs (this page), you can send your application using the instructions provided for your desired position on our Jobs page.
What types of positions do you have available? Will I be working full-time?
Yes, you can certainly work full-time, and this is a key aspect of meeting Scribendi’s aim: to have a core team of full-time editors situated around the world with expertise across a wide array of disciplines and genres. We want editors working full-time, and this is one of the major advantages of working for a large company like Scribendi: we do the heavy lifting in terms of client acquisition in order to provide you with work. How much you work is up to you, and this schedule flexibility is another major advantage at Scribendi. However, we do ask that you edit at least 10,000 words per month to remain active on our roster.
We hire both remote editors (a telecommute position) and in-house editors (who work in the Scribendi office). Please check our Jobs page for current listings and requirements, both for editorial positions and other in-house opportunities.
What makes you special from others?
We offer telecommuters the opportunity to work from the comfort of their own homes; the ability to pick and choose assignments based on their interests, expertise, and schedules; a variety of different documents to work on; and, most importantly, prompt and reliable payment for the work they complete. We also handle all the hassles associated with traditional freelance jobs, such as advertising, marketing, billing, and customer service.
We offer in-house staff a competitive salary and benefits package; a selection of work schedules that includes weekends and evenings; state-of-the-art facilities; and a great work environment with a team of engaged professionals.
What are the technical requirements for working with you?
To work for Scribendi, you will need a PC (not an Apple/Macintosh computer) equipped with Microsoft Word 2010 (minimum) or later. Unfortunately, we do not allow the use of Mac OS X because of compatibility issues.
Working for Scribendi requires a moderately advanced level of computer and Internet knowledge. You need to be extremely comfortable with downloading and uploading files, attaching files to emails, saving and finding files on your computer, transferring files, renaming files, and using a website interface. You should have a good working knowledge of the major document file formats and their associated software programs. You should also be Internet savvy enough to know where to look for information about a particular file format or subject. As we also sometimes get documents that misbehave, the ability to troubleshoot technical problems is necessary.
Do I have to pay to work for you?
Absolutely not. There are no application fees, system access fees, etc. When you complete orders, we pay you. That’s it.
